Feeling invested in a community is what we mean by civic engagement. Living in a NYC neighborhood does not automatically translate into feeling you are part of and building a community. Voter turnout, voting access, and participatory budgeting are all key indicators of civic engagement. These indicators are informed by race, income, disability status, and neighborhood.
To understand Civic Engagement as a function of inequality, we used four indicators:
- Race & Voter Turnout
- Income & Voter Turnout
- Disability & Voting Access
- Location & Participatory Budgeting
